Rehabilitation Protocol

Phase

Range of Motion

Weight Bearing

Exercises

Phase 1

(0-4 weeks)

- Gentle active and active assistive range of motion for the elbow and wrist

 

- Pain free, gentle passive range of motion for shoulder flexion, abduction, internal rotation and external rotation to neutral

Non-weight bearing

- Begin week 3 with sub-maximal shoulder isometrics

Phase 2

(4-8 weeks)

- Gentle active and active assistive range of 

Non-weight bearing

- Begin week 3 with sub-maximal shoulder isometrics

*Shoulder immobilizer is worn at all times from 0-2 weeks, only during the day from weeks 2-4, and can be discontinued after week 4
